Opportunity Pi
A self-hosted tracker that reads 2,000+ official Indian websites for jobs, exams and fellowships, reads Hindi notices with OCR, and sends a daily digest on Telegram. Runs 24/7 on a Raspberry Pi 3.
Government job and exam notices in India are scattered across thousands of official websites, many of them slow, inconsistent, or published only as scanned Hindi PDFs. Opportunity Pi checks them on a schedule, reads what changed, and tells me — and a small group of family members — only about the notices that matter to each person.
What it does
- Scans more than 2,000 official websites in tiers, from daily to twice a week.
- Reads scanned Hindi notices with OCR, and uses AI models (free tiers only) to summarise them and check eligibility.
- Sends a daily digest and alerts on Telegram, with a small web dashboard for settings.
- Heals itself after power cuts and network drops, and backs itself up every night — encrypted.
How it was made
I designed the product, decided what it should and shouldn’t do, tested it every day, and run it. Much of the code was written with AI coding assistants under my direction. Building it taught me more about Linux, networking, databases and systems than any course so far.
